News that former Chelsea and Newcastle United manager Ruud Gullit has been appointed the new head coach at David Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy is expected to draw even more European footie fans travelling over the Pond. Seeing the two legends in action will be a tempting prospect for both British and Dutch fans, according to Freeads.co.uk, the UK's leading independent classifieds site. Chief executive Duncan Horton said: "The question is though who will win the battle of the hairdo? Both these guys are known for their penchant for outlandish hairstyles, will the fans take this to heart as they aim to emulate their heroes? Buying the shirt and boots may not be enough for some die-hard fans." Like Beckham, Gullit has an impressive CV, as a former FA Cup winner in 1997 during the first of his two seasons at the Chelsea - the club's first major trophy for 26 years. He was sacked from his job at Stamford Bridge following a disagreement with the board but soon found himself back in regular club management when he took up the reigns of Newcastle United. Gullit caused something of a stir on Tyneside, claiming he wanted to bring "sexy football" to St James' Park and leading the team to the FA Cup final in 1999. Since leaving Newcastle, Gullit has only had a brief return to management with Eredivisie side Feyenoord between 2004 and 2005, choosing instead to focus on a career as a television pundit. However the 45-year-old has been swayed by an offer from the MLS side, and will join the rising number of stars heading stateside, which includes Beckham, current Galaxy team-mate Abel Xavier and former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel. |
